The Evens Challenge is back.
Episode 11.
And at this point…
👉 Everyone thinks they can do it.
Until they actually get behind the rifle.
In this episode, Rob and Jeromy bring out three shooters to take on one of the hardest practical shooting challenges you’ll find anywhere—and let’s just say:
👉 The challenge won again.

🔥 What Makes the Evens Challenge So Hard?
On paper, it sounds simple.
In reality?
👉 It exposes everything.
The Course of Fire:
- 200 yards
- 400 yards
- 600 yards
- 800 yards
- 1,000 yards
At each distance:
- 2 MOA target (1 point)
- 1 MOA target (2 points, or 3 on first-round hit)
And here’s the catch:
👉 You MUST hit every 1 MOA target to earn the challenge coin.
Miss one…
You’re done.
Why 200 Yards Is Secretly the Hardest Stage
You’d think the longest distances would be the problem.
Nope.
👉 200 yards is where people struggle early.
Even the shooters called it out right away:
- Tight targets
- Nerves
- No warm-up
And suddenly…
👉 The “easy” shot isn’t so easy anymore.
Meet the Shooters
This episode brought out three very different setups and skill levels.
🎯 Kent – .243 Win Custom Build
- Howa 1500 action
- .243 Winchester
- 108gr ELD-M
- Leopold Mark V optic
👉 Classic caliber, clean setup, and honestly… one of the most interesting runs of the day.
🎯 Brian – 6.5 Creedmoor Setup
- Christensen Arms MPR
- 6.5 Creedmoor
- 130gr Berger handloads
👉 Solid, capable rifle—but like most shooters…
👉 The challenge hit harder than expected.
🎯 Denny – 7 Moses (Sponsor Shooter)
- 7 Moses platform
- MDT chassis
- 180gr Berger
Also brought:
👉 Custom steel targets from MOA Ammunitions
And even with a highly capable rifle…
👉 Conditions still made it tough.
The Real Enemy: Wind & Mirage
This is where things unraveled.
Not gear.
Not rifles.
👉 Wind and mirage.
Even on a relatively calm day:
- Wind was switching constantly
- Mirage made targets hard to see
- Spotting impacts became difficult
As they explained:
The wind never matches what’s happening downrange.
That’s real-world shooting.
No Backstops = No Feedback
Another brutal factor:
👉 No clear impact feedback.
- No dust kicks
- No splash
- Hard to see misses
Which means:
👉 You’re making corrections based on limited information
And that’s where most shooters start falling apart.
The Results: Nobody Took the Coin
After all three shooters ran the course…
👉 No one earned the challenge coin
But that’s the point.
This challenge is designed to:
- Push limits
- Expose weaknesses
- Show what real shooting looks like
And even strong performances didn’t quite get there.
Why This Challenge Hits Different
This isn’t bench shooting.
This isn’t perfect conditions.
This is:
- Uneven terrain
- Real wind
- Pressure
- Limited feedback
👉 It’s as close to real-world shooting as it gets
And that’s why it’s so valuable.
